![]() It took 2 minutes for Dan to absolutely nail why this exists. I, and probably others in this reddit, would love to assist you if you decide to go down this path of RC aeronautics, and to join the 'brotherhood' of sorts. You appear to already know the basics, and I can even suggest INDOOR RC airplanes you can fly in a basketball court that are fairly hard to purely destroy (like the triplane in the simulator made out of the same foam used in those foam disposable plates. I've had such fun and saw the most amazing things (from massive airplanes the size of my entire body pointing directly upward and hovering inches above the tarmac, to a flying RC lawnmower), so much so that I miss doing it in my later years now that I have a job. Such experience was indispensable to me and I would recommend it to anyone. The RC community is a nice one and tend to be willing to help you start off and not destroy your first RC Airplane flight. And once you can do very simple things like circling, taking off, landing, I heavily suggest you go to your closest RC field and talk to the people there. I suggest you get into nice big RC airplane flying, buy a proper RC airplane controller, maybe with a proper RC airplane (maybe a larger electric trainer airplane or gas trainer) and use that controller to play Aerofly RC 7 using that. What 'did' surprise me though was that he still had fun with it and that he exclaimed 'why not just buy a real RC airplane'. Although his responses were surprising initially that he didn't understand the point of it until a little later, he did point out the fact that it is very expensive if you bought it as a game. Viewing it as a game instead of the trainer that it is with a 360 controller instead of a proper RC controller. Still, I enjoyed seeing Nerd come at the game in such a drastically different perspective and piece it together. Unlike remote controls now that are probably USB, the ones I had to use had a serial pin adapter that you plugged into the back of the remote control. I used to fly RC airplanes as a kid and practiced a lot on the simulator. It's an amazing sim, it has the most accurate stall speeds and flight characteristics, but it's really only for people that really fucking love airplanes.Įdit: Here's some real sailplanes in New Zealand. It also has the real thing with a 20m wingspan. The biggest one in the game is a DG1000 with an 8m wingspan. You get in the air by either tying a rope to another airplane and towing it, or with a fast winch to fling it up. They ride rising air currents (Thermals, ridge lift or mountain wave lift) like eagles to stay aloft. They're super aerodynamic and can have glide ratios of over 50:1, meaning they can fly in a straight line for 50 miles while only descending one mile. Not a lot of people that aren't crazy about airplanes know about sailplanes. The kit for the plane is about 2K I believe, and the engine is $4150.00.īut my absolute favorite thing about the simulator, and what's made me spend probably 40 hours in it in the last couple weeks, is it's soaring simulation. The same displacement as a Honda Rebel. This one's in the standard edition that Dan has. This is a 1/4 scale Corsair with a Moki 250CC 5 cylinder engine. He got second place in an RC build competition. This is one of the Jets available in the game, a 1/5 (actually 1/7 in the game but you can scale it up in the ultimate edition) F-16.This thing has a real jet engine in it and it's the size of a small car.
