When in doubt check the Garmin GPS for type approaches available at the airport you are flyimg to. That doers not include the 100,000 + transitions for all the different approaches that is also in the airport records. <<feature> Simplified Directional Facility ( SDF) provides a final approach course similar to that of the ILS localizer although is not as precise as Localizer.![]() Keep in mind there are over 21,000 Jeppesen Approach Plates scanned into the airport records database of FSX. You must climb to 14,000 ft safely and you fly the I-PKN Localizer Back Course in reverse (away from) so it is normal sensing of the track bar needle. The front course Localizer is I-ASE but if you have to execute a published missed approach you must fly the second Localizer I-PKN. There are some airports that have both a ILS and a LDA (offset Localizer) approach for the same runway such as John Wayne Co (KSNA) Rwy 20R and La Guardia (KLGA) Rwy 22.Īspen CO (KASE) does not have a ILS but has 2 Localizers when landing on runway 15. ZLA doesn't have any SDF approaches, but they are discussed in the AIM chapter 1 referenced above for an example SDF approach see the SDF 23 approach to SCX. Another navigation aid very similar to a localizer is a SDF. FSX pilots complain the ILS did not align their plane for landing on the runway at many airports around the world without realizing the Localizer portion of the ILS approach is offset. For examples of these, see the LOC/DME BC-A to SMX or the LOC/BC 1L to SNA. Many airports like Newark (KEWR), Kennedy (KJFK), have offset ILS localizer courses meaning the localizer portion of the ILS and the runway headings are not the same (but within 3 degrees of each other). Since the offset is more then 3 degrees (its 45 degrees) the approach must be classified as a Localizer Type Directional Aid (LDA). That is because the approach course is 304 degree Magnetic and the runway heading is 259 degree Mag. ![]() The Localizer Approach at PHNL's runway 26L is actually a LDA approach. However, they have Localizer approaches based on which runway you are landing on. I would consider Tampa, FL (KTPA) Reno, NV (KRNO) San Diego (KSAN) El Paso, TX (KELP) Honolulu (PHNL) all major airports.
